What is Tsuzuri-kobo?

Word "tsuzuri" is Japanse language and it means "to bind" or "to create by writing"
. I do both. "Kobo" simply means "a workshop".

Tsuzuri-kobo started as a place where anyone can study basic bookbinding. There were regular lessons for a small group every month. Now there are no more ongoing lessons, but occasionally I take in a private student who is working with some special project. It is always inspiring to exchange ideas.

At the moment I have a very gifted Japanese assistant working with me in my studio. Her name is Hiroko Mabuchi. She started her bookbinding studies in 2007 and is rapidly getting better and better. I have great expectations for her future as a book maker. She is waiting for your ever more challenging book orders for her practice.
